Here we are again. A new variant. Where I live, the hospitals are filled beyond capacity, something that sounds impossible but is, in fact, true. We're exhausted by news and uncertainty, frustrated by a one-step-forward, two-steps-back return to "normalcy" and angry at the world, or at least those who don't see things the way we do (however it is that we see them). Despair seems inevitable.
But it's not.
As this helpful and upbeat piece from Mashable reminds us, we know how to do this. Sure, we may be tired of doing it, but we're not unequipped. In fact, we're far better equipped than we were 21 months ago, and far more knowledgeable as well. Stepping back, taking a deep breath, and taking it all in is the first step toward deciding what we need. Less news? More takeout? Quiet time with those who matter to us?
The answer will vary from each person to the next, and perhaps even from one day (or moment) to the next, but the answers aren't random or even radical. What do you need right here, right now to maintain your health and well being?
'Tis the season to be kind to ourselves, and the first step is to decide what that means. As you shop and wrap and decorate to the soundtrack of 24-7 Christmas tunes, don't forget to put yourself on the nice list. Whether your gift of choice is merry or mild, don't allow another season to be swept up and away in pandemic panic.
There really is another choice.
