It was almost dinnertime before I found out that today is National Napping Day. How could I have missed it? I tried to catch up and squeeze a nap in but, just as I drifted off, my husband started doing something in the kitchen that startled me and that was the end of that.
That happens a lot, mostly because I celebrate National Napping Day several times a week. Now that I'm not the only one working from home, nappus interruptus happens quite often. That is, however, not enough to deter me from trying anyway.
Technically, today's not just National Napping Day; it's National Workplace Napping Day, intentionally celebrated on the day after we spring ahead and lose an hour of sleep. Clever.
Now that we're all working from home, it's not so hard to imagine napping in our current workplace but, if you think back to life pre-pandemic, can you imagine even suggesting that a nap should be part of the work day?
Nice work if you can get it.
The great minds behind this great day cite a number of well-respected nappers, including John F. Kennedy, Winston Churchill and Thomas Edison, which makes me feel as though at least I'm keeping good company. And studies have shown that even naps beyond the infamous 20-minute power nap can have benefits for our brains.
You don't have to tell me twice.
It's National Napping Day and I know just how I want to celebrate.
