Friday Feature: Mistakes Freshmen Make

What do you wish you'd known when you went to college? As someone old enough to have started college (and graduated) BI (before internet), I started college blissfully unaware of all the things I didn't know and all of the mistakes I was about to make. I suppose I could have read a book on the subject but, like most of my peers, the thought never crossed my mind.

Today's students, on the other hand, can preview common mistakes, along with advice for making smarter choices. While this is potentially useful, I have to wonder how many students are reading these articles. I suspect that many readers are parents of freshmen or, like me, instructors of this same population.

Whether you're a parent, an instructor, or a college student who's on top of things, here's one of my favorites on rookie errors, a.k.a. freshman mistakes.

Forewarned is forearmed and, if nothing else, I can now tell my freshmen they are not alone.
