My forthcoming novel, Casting the First Stone explores a custody dispute from the perspectives of two different women: Marita Mercer, Charli's mother and Angel Alessio, Charli's stepmother. This week, I'd like to introduce you to Marita and her family.
Marita Mercer: At sixteen, Marita was anxious to rebel against her conservative upbringing. When she and her best friend Bets crashed a fraternity party at a local college, Marita's fraternization produced a daughter, Charli. Now, twelve years later, Marita will do anything to retain custody of the child she has raised alone.
Charlotte Mercer Alessio ("Charli"): Twelve-year-old daughter of Marita Mercer and former frat boy Jim Alessio. Though she began life as the result of an unplanned pregnancy, Charli has had a good upbringing thanks to her mother and her grandparents. Charli is bright, well-adjusted and happy with her life the way it is.
Judge William Mercer: Marita's father. Conservative, in-charge and willing to provide help to Marita...with strings attached.
Rosemarie Mercer: Marita's father. Disapproving, dramatic and still punishing Marita for her indiscretions.
Stay tuned for more characters...and updates on book-related events, including a book signing at Starbucks :-)
