Catnaps and Re-Boots

It's a grey day with a snowy sky, and I'm having trouble getting started. I was up before my husband and daughter left for work and school, as usual, but once the house was quiet and a load of laundry was in the washer, the lure of the fleece blanket on the sofa proved too strong to resist.

It was just a small nap - a re-boot of sorts. Yesterday was a busy day, capping off a long weekend, so today is a one-day-late start to the week. I have plenty to do, but nothing is urgent and the wintry day outside my window makes the coziness of my house more conducive to curling up on the sofa with a good book than making and and acting on a to-do list.

The older I get, the less I believe that naps are for little kids. While sleeping the day away won't add a thing to my productivity, a short little catnap - a re-boot - often gives me the power surge I need to tackle the things that loom ahead. When my schedule allows me the luxury of truly listening to my body and resting when it tells me to, regardless of the time on the clock or some looming list, I end up accomplishing much and in a greatly enhanced (that is, less cranky) fashion. And for those of us who are procrastinators, the time spent not doing ends up being time well spent.

So today was a perfect day for the re-boot. Awake for real, and possessing some of the motivation I was lacking two hours ago, I'm ready to dig in - to make a dent in the list. It will be lengthy, I know - it always is after long weekends - and it will require both patience and endurance. But I've had my nap, and so I'm up for the task.

  1. I think the fact that you can nap and then get more done than you would have without the nap proves it's well worth the time!

Enjoy those days when there's a bit of lull in activity! Your soul needs the reboot as much as your body!

  2. Amen to that, Heidi! I've always been a night owl, but I also want to be up with my husband and daughter (too early) in the morning...so I think naps may be inevitable!!
